These dates are when we get more family gatherings, celebrations with friends, business lunches and commitments that lead to unhealthy habits such as overeating, drinking alcohol or smoking.
In addition, due to the change in our life habits during these days it is also common to forget some of the good habits, such as brushing your teeth after each meal.
Here are some basic tips to enjoy the Christmas holidays without endangering the present and future of your oral health are:
Control what you eat
It is important to control what and how much you eat, especially in relation to the typical Christmas sweets. Try not to eat them every day and, above all, avoid snacking between meals: it is proven that sugars (along with poor hygiene) are related to the appearance of cavities.
Don’t forget to brush your teeth
Even if you eat or dine away from home, there is no excuse to stop brushing. There are travel brushes, smaller or folding that you can carry in your pocket or purse. The goal is not only to remove food debris, but also to prevent the formation of bacterial plaque, thus preventing gum inflammation problems. If you still can’t brush after dinner, stay up late isn’t also an excuse to lie down without brushing your teeth.
Take care of your tooth sensitivity
If you already feel your teeth sensitive when eating, drinking or brushing, do not forget that a large number of drinks are acidic and that they are not usually identified as such, so they will act by worsening this problem: wine (more white than red), beer, cola drinks, energy drinks, fruit juices (especially citrus fruits) or infusions of red fruits. Don’t let your teeth stain. To avoid darkening your teeth do not drink red wine, coffee, tea or cola in excess. The same will happen if you abuse dark chocolate. And even more if you are a smoker.
Give health
If you can’t avoid last-minute purchases, at least try to make them useful gifts… A good idea would be any hygiene product or dental service that facilitates better oral health.
